Sulfamethazine is an antibacterial sulfonamide. Like other sulfonamides, sulfamethazine is bacteriostatic, competitively inhibiting dihydropteroate synthase to block folate synthesis and inhibit growth and multiplication. Sulfamethazine is metabolized by cytochrome P450 isoforms and arylamine N-acetyltransferase 2 in a sex-dependent manner.

Uses, benefits, Side Effects

1.Sulfa drugs for broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, structurally similar to aminobenzoic acid (PABA), but with PABA 2 folic acid synthetase competitive effect on bacteria, preventing PABA as raw materials of synthetic folic acid bacteria need process, reduce the amount of folic acid which has metabolic activity, while the latter is the synthesis of bacteria Piao Yin, thymine nucleoside and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) required material, thus inhibiting the growth of bacteria.
2.Sulfa drug, has inhibition action on hemolytic streptococcus, pneumococcus, meningitis, coccus and other bacteria, and its pharmacological action is similar to sulfa diazine. Its acetylate is easy soluble in water, and easy to be excreted from urea, almost impossible to cause kidney disturbance.

3.Gastrointestinal, respiratory and urogenital infections caused by sulfadimidine sensitive microorganisms like E.coli, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Pasteurella spp. in calves, cattle, goats, poultry, sheep and swine, and coccidiosis caused by Eimeria spp. in poultry. Contra indications Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides. Administration to animals with a seriously impaired renal and/or hepatic function, or with blood dyscrasias.
